For three consecutive features in Golf Australia magazine, Trentham has been listed among Australia's best value-for-money, quality courses that you can play for less than $50. In this respect, Trentham was ranked with other top-quality country courses such as Port Fairy, Horsham, Warrnambool, Leongatha, Lonsdale and Shepparton.

Trentham is in one of Victoria's most interesting and popular tourist areas, the Macedon Ranges and Spa Country. There's plenty of interesting shops, restaurants, cafes, tourist attractions and accommodation within 20km of the course at Trentham and in nearby Daylesford.

The best greens west of Melbourne

Renowned and respected golf journalist, PGA professional and golf course designer Mike Clayton visited Trentham recently and described the greens as the 'best he'd played all year'.

Trentham has rebuilt all of its greens to USGA standards in recent years. They are well-drained, bent grass greens. Your putting will be challenged in all sort of interesting ways by greens that roll true, are evenly grassed and in great condition.

A pleasant and beautiful place to play

Trentham will challenge you as a golfer. But it doesn't depend on excessive length to do so. If you are a low handicapper, you'll be challenged by the accuracy of the shot-making, the approaches and the subtlety of the greens. If you are a beginner, high handicapper or social player, you won't be overwhelmed by championship length that only Adam Scott can manage. Re-capture some of the golfing fun that championship monsters with penal rough have taken away! A fast round will leave you without frustration, and you won't spend hours searching knee-high rough for lost balls.

It's easy to walk

Trentham is gently undulating. There's no long, steep hills to negotiate. The lack of demanding physical effort to walk the course will leave you free to concentrate on playing your golf, which is after all what you are there for. Distances from tee to green are short, and the next tee is usually right next door to each green.

There's a wide variety in the holes, from a short 'postage stamp' par-3 through to a good 3-shot par-5. All of them are fun and none are really a chore. None of them feel like you are climbing a mountain, or feel so flat there's no interest as you look from the tee.

It's usually in great condition.

Save for a few drier weeks in mid- to late-summer,  the fairways are in great condition. Year-round the greens are superb,  and the tees are well-grassed. The rough is friendly and well-mown, and you won't spend hours searching for lost balls. In Spring, the fairways are lush and the magnificent rhododendrons are in full bloom.

Based on a rich volcanic soil, the course is well drained and never flooded or waterlogged. Despite the higher than average rainfall, the course suffers far less from water than many poorly-drained courses in drier areas.
