The third and final round of the 2025 Trentham Mixed Championships was played on Saturday June 28. Simon Ovenden and Alison Borchers won with 66.625, from Paul and Anne McKeon on 71.625.

The 2025 Mixed Handicap trophy was won by Lisa Caines and Paul Robinson, and the 2025 Mixed Scratch trophy was won by Simon Ovenden and Alison Borchers (photo).

The men's and women's doubles knockout finals have been completed for 2025.

Finalists in the 2025 doubles knockout: (l-r) David Thiele, Martin Walker, Adam Moustafa, Cameron McDonald, Julie Hanson, Caroline Johnston, Jenny Cutter, Anne McKeon.   

In the men's event, David Thiele and Martin Walker had to give a few shots to Adam Moustafa and Cameron McDonald, however they went to a 2-hole lead by the 7th hole. Although Adam and Cameron managed a fightback, David and Martin held on to win 1-up on the 18th hole.

In the women's event Julie Hanson and Caroline Johnston won over Jenny Cutter and Anne McKeon.

June 9th marked four years on from the intense storm that devastated our course and the surrounding Trentham area. Local members suffered damage to their homes. And few people who sheltered in their homes that night envisaged what was happening on the course. Seventy-five large trees were blown over, fences damaged and our practice nets destroyed. The course was closed for nearly two months before it was playable again.

Looking back and four years down the track, the efforts of our greens staff, club members, visiting green keepers and contractors have achieved a wonderful outcome. While a few signs are still visible around the course in the form of mulch piles where trees once stood, the course is fully playable and back to its best.

It's an ill wind that doesn't blow some good, and the course has improved in some areas. As examples, the 2nd and 12th greens have more sunlight and better grass health with fewer tall trees shading them from the north. The 12th hole is much better without the two large gum trees overhanging the fairway on the left hand side of the approach. The 14th hole has been opened up with fewer trees down the left side and the removal of the large eucalypt near the 15th tee. Our new and much improved practice nets are currently under construction.

Four years down the track the club would like to thank everyone who has helped either by giving time, expertise or financial contributions. It demonstrates what can be achieved by community effort and good organisation, motivated by a love of the club and the course.

Trentham Golf Club is near to completing an important $175,000 wireless-controlled irrigation upgrade. Greens have been fitted with new irrigation pipes around the perimeter, with new sprinklers and wireless solenoids. There is a filled trench line around each green that will take some time to grow over.

Please note that the following temporary local rule is in place:

• All works associated with the installation of the new irrigation system around greens are to be treated as GUR. Players must take relief in accordance with Rule 16.1a.

Please make an effort to step over the area when walking to the green to avoid footprints. Please avoid walking golf buggies over the area.

Congratulations to Trentham's Lisa Caines and Sally Kirkright, who won the women's event in the 2025 Golf Australia Victorian 4-Ball Championship.

Held over two days, the first round on Monday February 17 was at Spring Valley Golf Club. Lisa and Sally came 5th with 37 points. On the second day on Tuesday February 18 at Heritage Golf Club, they had an excellent 40 points, overtaking the leaders to win the championship overall.

Two other Trentham pairs, Rosemary Kelly and Trish Brierley, Alex Evered and Simon Ovenden represented the club by competing in the championship.

One of the Golf Australia 4BBB championship qualifying rounds is our own 4-Ball Stableford event during the Trentham Tournament week, this year on Wednesday 22 October 2025. You could qualify for the final just like Lisa and Sally! Keep it in your diary.

On Saturday February 15th, Trentham Golf Club held a formal opening of the new 12th tee, dedicated to the late Geoff Varley. The new tee features a memorial plaque. Geoff's wife Noelene and some of his family made ceremonial drives off the tee.

Geoff, who sadly passed away on October 3, 2023 at the age of 75, was a devoted member of our club for over 20 years. He served as President and Captain multiple times, contributed tirelessly to the match and greens committees, represented the club at the district level, and was our Tournament Secretary for many years.

Beyond his many roles, Geoff will always be remembered for his love of golf, his down-to-earth humour, and his unwavering dedication to the club and its members. His legacy lives on in the very fairways he helped shape and the friendships he fostered.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special occasion. Geoff’s spirit will always be a part of Trentham Golf Club.

The Bendigo Community Bank Trentham & Districts has generously provided a grant of $50,000 to support the upgrade of our course irrigation system. This wonderful contribution will make a huge difference to the course and the future of our club.

The grant was formally awarded to the club in a special presentation after the weekly golf competition and presentation on Thursday December 12, Our picture shows excited Trentham members and representatives of the Community Bank on the 10th green, celebrating the awarding of the grant.

A massive thank you to the Community Bank Trentham & Districts for their support, and a special thanks to Rhonda Holcombe and Jan Stephenson for their hard work, dedication and the development and presentation of the business case to the bank.

The club is now over two-thirds of the way towards the target of $175,000 to completely renew the irrigation system and provide for excellent green and tee conditions for years to come.

Trentham Golf Club was first formed in 1937. The club commenced by leasing land for a 9-hole course on land owned by the Trentham Co-operative Society. In October 1949, the club purchased all the land owned by the Co-operative Society and over 60 years has developed the course we have today.

To compare what the course looked like in 1949 to what it looks like today, slide the bar on the images below. The historic aerial photo from 1946 shows the Trentham Co-operative Society's yards and slaughterhouse just forward of the 4th tee among the large cypress trees, most of which still exist. The club's sand greens show as white dots, some in the same place as today's greens. Some trees existed in 1949, such as those around the 15th tee, the large Manna gum on the hill on the corner of the 16th, and some roadside trees. But nearly all trees on the course, native and exotic, have been planted since the land was purchased in 1949.
